QB, D'von McGleese wins Gazzillo Bowl VI
The MTA strike was not able
to put a damper on Gazzillo Bowl VI.
Even though the numbers were down
this year the competition was still fierce.
Coach
Lightfoot’s rein over the Mia Cup is over. Lightfoot was
kicked out in the first round by Matt Lucas 14-0. Matt went on to lose
to Iton Richardson who later went on to face D’von McGleese in
the Gazzillo Bowl Championship Game.
D’von McGleese defeated Gabe Serra, Coach “O”,
and Coach McKenna in the Sorensen Division Championship Game before facing
Richardson in the Gazzillo Bowl. McGleese went on to blow out Richardson
36-14 including two kick-off returns for 99 and 104 yards.
 The
Gazzillo Bowl is a party for the seniors. They get as many TVs and Playstations
as they can and play a single elimination tournament with the latest
Madden and EA Sports football game. “I see it as a right
of passage for my players, to go from boys who played for me, to men
who are my friends.” Stated Gazzillo.
Gazzillo started the tournament in 2000 as an end of season party. As
the years went on the party took on a life of its own and the name changed
from Christmas Bowl to The Gazzillo Bowl. Besides bragging rights, the
winners of the tournament get their name on the Gazzillo Bowl T-Shirt
Past winners include:
2000 - Angel Vargas
2001 - Will Alemany
2002 - Hakim Constantine
2003 - Chris Brown
2004 - Coach Lightfoot
2005 - D’von McGleese
Gazzillo finished by stating the best part of the Bowl for him is seeing
so many of his past players come back to say hello and have a good time
at the party.
