GSC gets first NYC Coaches Association
All-City Player, DE Chris Basile
Three year starting Defensive End, Chris Basile is Grand Street Campus’ first
New York City Coaches Association All-City Player.
From his first game, the 6-4, 255-pounder showed the super-star talents
that established him as the defensive foundation in Coach Gazzillo’s
program that produced two undefeated seasons and two play-off appearances
in the organizations short history.
Basile is armed with speed, quickness, strength and great determination.
At the peak of his game, number 72 could dominate an offense almost single-handedly.
Chris set the tone for the Wolves Defense with an outstanding senior
season, during which he recorded 43 tackles, 11 sacks, 4 forced fumbles,
and 2 blocked punts.
In the last game of the regular season vs. Adams, Chris once again emerged
from the pack when in a crucial situation; he blocked a Spartans punt,
setting up great field position for the Wolves. The Wolves went on to
score the go ahead touchdown to preserve the undefeated season.
Basile then went on to win the Brooklyn Coaches Association Exceptional
Senior All-Star Game (also known as The Reilly Classic), Defensive MVP.
Other awards Chris has won in 2004 include:
- Brooklyn Coaches Association Big 44
- New York City Coaches Association All Boro
- New York Newsday All Boro
- New York Newsday All-City Honorable Mention
- Brooklyn Exceptional Senior All-Star
