Orengo has been The Wolves Special Teams Coordinator since the 2000 season.
“Alex has the title of special teams coordinator because special
teams are an integral part of winning and losing,” Gazzillo said.
“The title is indicative that we place the same emphasis on that
position as we do the offensive coordinator and the defensive coordinator.
Alex’s units are tough and physical. Coach Orengo is constantly
coming up with creative ways to play Special Teams. His unique style of
coaching makes practice exciting and fun to come to.”
Coach Orengo’s Special Teams came through in big ways during The
Wolves 2004 Undefeated Season. In a rainy game vs. Boys High. The Wolves
were down 8-0 with 6 minutes left in the game when Jose Toro ran back
a 95 yard touchdown return to bring the Wolves within 2. The Wolves later
won the game 12 – 8.
Vs. Adams, the Wolves were once again down by 8, The Wolves needed a
major momentum shift. When Coach Orengo sent out his punt return team,
Chris Basile blocked the punt which gave The Wolves great field position
The Wolves tied the game and later went on to beat the Spartans 16-14.
Orengo spent 2004 coaching quarterbacks and defensive linemen. From 2000
– 2003 Orengo coached receivers and defensive backs.
Coach Orengo is married to Angela Orengo and Father to Alexa, Emily,
and Chelsea. The Orengo Family resides in Staten Island, New York.
